I would say the only downside to this camera is that it doesn’t allow for more than 32gb of storage so if you’re recording with 1080p that’s roughly 5 hours of footage if I’m not mistaken… kind of sucks if you don’t want it to delete an older clip. This can be easily done with git branch -set-upstream-to=origin/beta some-local-branch Then, they need to set up all the branches that are using origin/feature to use origin/beta as their upstream. If they want to delete the local one, they need to run git branch -D feature. That won't delete their local feature branch, if they have one (I for one do not create local branches for shared branches). It shouldn't be too difficult for them to correct the situation.įirst, they should fetch with -prune so that the remote feature branch goes away from what they see about the remote: git fetch -prune origin # or adjust to the remote that each one likes to name it I hope your team was in sync about this branch renaming. Luckily the person I'm working on this project with had no work in progress/staged changes on feature, but if he had, where would those have gone, considering his machine is unaware of the branch rename, and would have attempted to push it to remote on the old name?.What's the best way to tell other people that a branch has been renamed and they should update it on their local machines as well?.When they run git pull, they're getting the message "Your configuration specifies to merge with the ref 'refs/heads/feature' from the remote, but no such ref was fetched." When they run git branch they see master and feature listed. Now my local machine and GitHub are all synced up, but someone else working on their remote machine still has the feature branch. Pushed the beta branch and reset the upstream On my machine, I renamed feature with the following steps: I had a repo with the branches feature and master. Yes, the time had come for Pixar to tackle femininity. This was a completely valid critique of Pixar prior to Brave – they'd created excellent male characters and a few interesting and original female ones. Brave? It's a film that makes perfect sense, programmed for a domestic audience that yearns for an empowered female heroine. On paper, many of Pixar's films simply wouldn't make sense to investors. Everything is right there in front of you (in keeping with traditional Disney storytelling) and nothing is the least bit strange, right?īut strange is where Pixar storytelling thrives! Princess Merida doesn't want to marry, she wants to change her fate, so she poisons her mom, though everyone ends up fine in the end. While we're on the subject of precision, it must be noted that Brave suffers from a serious lack of whimsy due to its earnest and straightforward nature. The dialogue is neither quippy nor dramatic, favoring some weird Pixar/Disney middle ground that feels more vanilla than precise.Ĥ. Yep, Brave is chock-full of overly expository dialogue and songs, and while they never reach the quality level of the Disney's 1989-1994 "Third Golden Age," they also completely miss the vibe of Toy Story, Up, and WALL-E. You probably see where I'm going with this. Whereas Disney is known for songs, rapid mood shifts, and soliloquies. For Peete's sake, Joss Whedon wrote on Toy Story! Pixar has made a brand out of quick, clever writing. Will it eventually work out great for everyone involved? Yes.īrave is in the business of showing you things that can't possibly end any other way, entirely cribbing the tension. Will the suitors get angry with Merida and her family for her refusal to marry? Yes. Will he actually be able to harm her? No. Will the king hate the giant bear that is his wife? Yes. Will the three kids be hilarious as little bears? Sure. Will her mom be scared and confused about being a bear? Yes. Will Merida's wish to "change her fate" go awry? Yes. But afterward Brave reels off a few dozen questions in a row which the audiences already knows the answer to. It's a rollicking tale, interrupted by Princess Merida, setting a pleasant and sturdy tone. Where is the Dramatic Tension? Brave opens with a story about the king's leg being eaten off by a giant bear. As such, the film, while appearing lovely, doesn't ever fully pull at the heart strings (or the head strings) in the way previous Pixar efforts have.Ģ. The rest of the story involves The Queen as a bear, her running away, and Merida not wanting to get married. Montages and songs comprise a few minutes as well. Three minutes of the film are dedicated solely to Princess Merida following blue lights. Note: Massive SPOILERS follow, naturally.Īt 95 minutes, Brave is the shortest Pixar film since 2001's Monsters Inc., and it doesn't seem like they even had enough material to fill that amount. But within the greater context of Pixar's previous work, Brave does come up short, and I think we've got a bead on the reasons why. So no, Brave isn't a bad movie on merit, it's merely an average one, which animation houses make all the time without compelling anyone to write a 3,000 word article on the subject. It's not fair, and in many ways Pixar's own ambition and commitment to excellence have raised the bar for all movies. One final note, just to head off the obligatory "comparing Brave to the rest of Pixar's work isn't entirely fair" argument, we're in complete agreement there. As such, I'm compelled to break down where I feel the problems were, if only to restore everyone's favorite animation house to the glory they so richly deserve. Unfortunately, the story lacked a bit of. There's no question the film had amazing visuals, setting a new standard for excellence within the animation genre. I can truly say I've never found a Pixar film entirely lacking, and that statement includes Brave. Until now, the only Pixar film I flat out didn't enjoy was Ratatouille, though I admit to only having seen it once, and folks say I'd like it much more if I were to re-visit. To provide some context, and on the off chance we have completely different taste, here are my top five Pixar efforts: Out there in audience-land, did you notice something a little "off" about Brave? Perhaps there are lessons that can be learned, or conversations to engage in? SHL publishes and administers both inductive and deductive reasoning tests, the lengths of which vary depending on the level of role applied for. Common logical reasoning test publishersīelow are listed five of the most widely used publishers of logical reasoning tests, each of which has its own approach to this type of assessment. In administering a logical reasoning test, employers are evaluating how well you’re likely to perform tasks like strategy development, risk assessment and forecasting, as well as general problem solving. As such, logical reasoning is a vital part of many job functions. Our reasoning capabilities determine how effectively we interpret the world around us, and how we use what we know to be fact to inform our choices. Logic forms a fundamental part of day-to-day decision making. Why do employers use logical reasoning tests?Īs with any form of psychometric assessment, employers use logical reasoning tests as a way to filter applicants, most commonly in the pre-interview stages of selection. Other question types involve scenarios and statements from which you’ll be asked to make assumptions, deductions and inferences based on the evidence provided.Ĭritical reasoning tests are most commonly used in sectors where evidence-based judgement is an everyday requirement, such as law. You’ll need to decide whether the statement is a strong or weak argument. Argument analysis is common, in which a question is posed, and a yes/no answer given with a supporting statement. These tests tend to evaluate a range of skills. Critical reasoningĬritical reasoning tests are more akin to deductive reasoning tests, in that you’ll be dealing with word-based scenarios, arguments, evidence and conclusions. They too require you to find relationships and rules between visual sequences, then apply these to select the correct image from multiple options, be it a missing part or a continuation of the sequence in question. Abstract reasoningĪbstract reasoning tests are essentially inductive and/or diagrammatic reasoning tests under another name. You may also be presented with sets of abstract sequences, given a standalone visual, and asked to select which set it belongs to. Questions often take the form of a diagram with inputs and outputs, and you’ll be required to select which processes from a list of operators would achieve the documented effect. Similar to inductive reasoning, diagrammatic reasoning tests offer visual representations of a problem and require you to make logical connections to draw a conclusion. This could be identifying the odd one out, filling in the missing part of a pattern, or finding the next part of a sequence. You’ll need to quickly identify relationships and rules, then apply these to find the most logical answer from the multiple-choice options. This is most often done through the use of shapes, patterns, sequences and diagrams. Unlike deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning tests ask you to make general inferences – probable conclusions based on a set of information, rather than unquestionable outcomes. You may also be given a conclusive statement and asked to decide if it is true or false, or if there’s insufficient information to conclude either way. Only one of these answers can be true, based on the evidence provided. Typically, you’ll be presented with a short paragraph, or stimulus, detailing an argument, scenario or a number of stated facts, and a set of possible answers. Deductive reasoningĬommonly presented as a series of word problems, deductive reasoning tests require you to apply top-down-logic that is, you must draw the right conclusion from a set of given premises. That said, logical reasoning is actually an umbrella term for multiple types of assessment, and you may find you’re asked to take any one of the following five test types as part of a job application. It is typically non-verbal and in a multiple-choice format, and requires the use of rules and deduction to reach answers, rather than prior knowledge. A logical reasoning test is an assessment that measures your ability to interpret information, apply logic to solve problems and draw relevant conclusions.
